I love to play tennis, shop, and hang out with friends!

I play alot of tennis outside of school

I am erolled in APES because I hope it will give me a better understanding of the enviroment and at the same time raise my GPA.

I hope to get a good understanding of the enviromental sciences becasue I think it will help me when I go to college. I will be learning alot of science since i want to be pre-med so hopefully this will help me make relations between all the sciences.

Ch.  What does the word "sustainable society" mean to you? Do you believe that it is possible for the society you live in to become a sustainable society within the next 50 years? 

To me a sustainable society is one where we are able to use natural resources from the environment, but not harm or deplete the environment. I think it is possible for our society to become a sustainable society. It would take many preservation acts and people becoming conscience of what they are doing to the environment. However, I do not believe that it really will happen. Not to be a pessamist but alot of people are not willing to change and in order to create a sustainble enviroment everyone would have to cooperate.

 Ch.4 Why could the total number of animal flesh never exceed the numbers of plant flesh, even if all animals were vegetarians?

First i believe it comes down to reproduction. By anatomy plants are able to reproduce more than animals are. They are able to reproduce by sexual or asexual reproduction. They also have the power to spread seeds and create large amounts of offspring. Another reason is that plants capture the suns energy through photosynthesis.  Animals aquire this energy by metabolizing the plants energy. We must have more plants so that the animals can eat the plants and gain energy therefor there will always be more plants.

 Ch. 8 Suppose a hurricane blows down most of the trees in a forest. Timber company officials offer to salvage the fallen trees and plant a tree plantation to reduce the chances of fire and to improve the areas appearance, with an agreement that they can harvest the trees when they reach maturity and plant another tree farm. Others argue that the damaged forest should be left alone because hurricanes and other natural events are apart of nature and the dead trees will serve as a source of nutrients for natural recovery through ecological succession. What do you think should be done and why? 

I believe that the tree company should be able to put a tree plantation there. The wood is already knocked down. The habitat has already been destroyed. Yes it would grow back but there is no garuntee that it would grow back to the same habitat, so the company really wouldn't be doing anything different from what might already happen. Also, if they could go ahead and harvest the trees then they could use those for things that we need such as paper. They also promised to continue to replant the trees, so this are will never be barren. I think a tree plantation would be a good step towards a sustainable society. Another reason is they wouldn't be disturbing a habitat here (the NATURAL hurricane already did) but if they went somewhere else to cut down trees and replant them they would be disturbing that area.

Ch. 9 suppose because of disease or genetic defects from inbreeding, the wolves on Isle Royal die off. Should we a.)intervene and import new wolves to help control the moose population or, b.) let the moose population grow until it exceeds its carrying capacity and suffers another population crash? explain.

I would choose a. First it would be important to make sure that if it was a disease killing them that it is gone so that the newly imported wolves will survive. I know that it is the natural way for a population to exceed then decline and then rise again but i dont't believe this should be allowed to happen. When this happens the animals are starving or do not have enough room to live. This is a slow and agonizing way to die. I believe for humane reasons that the wolves should be reintroduced so that the moose do not suffer. It wouldn't affect the enviroment in a bad way either as long as the same types of wolves are brought in. Technically it should restore everything back to the way it was.

Ch.10 In the area that you live in, are you more likely to expierence an earthquake or volcanic erruption? What can you do to escape or reduce the harm if a disaster happens? What actions can you take when this happens?

We would be more likely to have a earthquake. There are nno active volcanos near Concord. if an earthquake happened you are supposed to get out of the building and into the open quickly. This is so nothing falls on you. If you can't get out of the house then you should stand in a door way because they are reinforced. I would try to save my family and make sure everyone is out.

Ch. 18 Do you agree or disagree with the argument from developing countries that developed countries should bear the brunt of reducing carbon dioxide emmission because they produce the most CO2? Explain

I believe this is incorrect because developing nations produce more CO2. This is because they do not have all the technology we do so some of their machinery is insufficient and produce more than ours. They also have just as much deforestation which takes away the CO2 absorbing plants and burning of fossil fuels. We already are making ways to produce less greenhouse gases but developing countries don't have the money to do those researches. Over all though i think its everyones responsibility and we all should try to cut greenhouse admissions.

Ch 21 Explain why or why not you support that all:

a.)all beverage containers be reusable

b.)all households and bussinesses sort recyclables for curbside pickup

c.)garbage companies inforce pay as you trash programs

consumers pay for paper of plastic bags to encourage reusable bag use

I agree with all these policies. i belive they would diffently help stop all the trash production and get people to recycle. A few of these policies may anger people at first because of its inconvenience but i think it would do good for our environment. If we don't start looking out for our environment then soon it wont be able to look out for us anymore (metaphorically). Recycling all of these items would help decrease the impact that the humans have on the environment.
