Chapter 2:  Some analysts believe that the world’s remaining hunter-gatherer societies should be given title to the land on which they and their ancestors have lived for centuries and should be left alone by civilization.  They content that we have created protective reserves for endangered species, so why not create protective reserves for cultures?  What do you think?  Explain.

I think it only makes sense!  But not the crappy pieces of land the American government forced upon the American Indians, but the lands that the indigenous people have lived on and created their history upon, like the Inuit peoples.  In many cases, the places these native groups live are not inhabited by general society, and therefore, would be perfect candidates for this idea.

Chapter 6:  Some biologists have suggested restoring large herds of bison on public lands in the North American plains as a way of restoring remaining tracts of tall-grass plains.  Ranchers with permits to graze cattle and sheep on federally managed lands have strongly opposed this idea.  What do you think about the idea of restoring large numbers of bison to the plains of North America?  Explain.

I personally think that restoring America’s once flourishing bison population will reestablish an intricate part that made America, America!  If the tall grass plains that once stretched over this country and supported vast herds of bison were brought back to its former glory, an irreplaceable part of our nation’s history can be preserved and maintained for generations to come.

Chapter 5:  In what way do humans occupy generalist niches and in what ways do they occupy specialist niches?  Do you think humans should become more dependent on a greater variety of foods and energy resources to promote long-term survival and sustainability?  Explain and discuss the short and long term economic and political consequences of such a shift.

Humans may occupy a generalist niche by being able to survive in many environmental conditions.  However, humans may be classified as specialists in the fact that we need water frequently, in other words, we cannot survive long periods of time without it.

I think we’ve survived a heck of a long time, and for most of those years, we did so without a McDonalds on every corner.  So, no, I do not think we need to broaden our food horizons.  Energy resources, on the other hand, can always be cleaner and greener.  I think if we not only find, but USE, cleaner sources of energy, our economic changes as well as our political direction will most likely be positive ones.

Chapter 12:  Congratulations – you have just been put in charge of the world.  Explain the 5 most important features of your population policy.

Well, I would have to really learn about every country's individual issues with population growth and evaluate how the policies are working for each country.  I'd then have to make the changes or tweaks that I think are appropriate, and keep those taht are working great!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 13:  Some people argue that starving people could get enough food by eating non conventional plants and insects; other point out that most starving people do not know what plants and animals are safe to each and cannot take a chance on experimenting when even the slightest illness could kill them.  If you had no money to grow or buy food, would you collect and eat protein-rich grasshoppers, moths, or other insects?

Of course I would!  I would find any means of survival, and if that means eating bugs, then eating bugs it is.  I don't think I would be able to survive for like, years just eating bugs and plants, but I would definately try it.

Chapter 17:  Congratulation!  You are in charge of reducing air pollution in your country.  List the 3 most important features of your policy.

  • fuel alternatives - a must
  • alternatives to commercial coal and oil burning
  • & ending the emission of pollutants that harm the ozone

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 16:  Congratulations!  You have just won $150,000 to build a house of your choice anywhere in the country.  What type of house would you build?  Where would you locate it?  What types of materials would you use?  What types of materials would you not use?  How would you heat and cool your house?  How would you heat your water?  Considering fuel and energy efficiency, what sort of lighting, stove, refrigerator, washer and dryer would you use?  Which of these appliances could you do without?

I would build an awesome house!  It would have round rooms and a tower and blacony, a plantearium room, and it would have old trees all around.  <- That's the only "must have" for location, old trees and a pretty forest.  I would use as environmentally friendly heating and cooling systems and materials, and would strive to abtain as environmentally friendly appliances that are currently out.
