Eutrophic

  • A eutrophic zone is characterized as an area that exhibits sufficient sunlight for photosynthesis to take place. This is mostly seen in lakes, in which they are called eutrophic lakes
  • The eutrophic lakes have a high nutrient content near the surface, but a very low nutrient content near the bottom of the lake
  • Eutrophic lakes are subject to algal bloom, which is the rapid increase in algal population; this results in poor water quality
  • Because of the deficiency in oxygen, bodies of water that experience eutrophication and algal blooms lack many species of fish including the trout (which requires cold oxygen-rich water)
